What Jev 1.13 is, and why it never says a word

How it plays

Every turn it gets the same battle state the language models get, and one multiple-choice question: which of this turn’s legal actions gives you the best chance to win? The options are exactly the legal actions an LLM is shown. It plays the option it rates most likely; the match pages list its top three probabilities where an LLM’s thought would be. It cannot pick an illegal action or answer in the wrong format, so it never falls back to the default move for those reasons.

How it built its team

It can’t write a team, so it builds one a choice at a time, from the same legal lists and under the same rules and referee as everyone else: six Pokémon one by one, then each one’s ability, item, Tera Type and nature, then its moves one by one. The one difference: LLMs write any EV spread they like, while Jev picks one of nine common spreads.

Things to know

• It is fast and cheap. About 0.7 seconds and a few hundredths of a cent per decision: a whole game costs about a third of a cent.
• It doesn’t think in text. The ruleset allows every model 1,024 tokens of thinking per turn; Jev uses none.
• It is capped at 8 games for now, like the other paid models.
